Allan is has been an advocate for the improvement of foot health and outcomes for diabetic patients for many years. He continues to educate people in the care of the feet to try to significantly lower the number of lower limb amputations performed in Australia each year.

 

Allan graduated as a podiatrist from Sydney Institute of Technology in 1981. Initially working in private practice, he later became a full-time teacher in  Podiatry at SIT and later went on to become the Senior Head Teacher of the program, a position he held for five years. During those years at SIT, Allan was responsible for teaching all aspects of Podiatry including nail surgery, sports podiatry, foot orthotics and diabetes. Always interested in education he gained his Masters of Adult Education. 

Allan has had a special interest in outdoor recreation for over forty years. He is a current member of the Canberra Bushwalking Club and has walked and climbed in many locations including Tasmania, New Zealand, Chile, France, the UK and in 2008, the Kokoda Trail.

Allan moved to Bungendore with his wife in 2000 and has two children. Allan's community involvement culminated with heading the steering committee for the establishment of a Bendigo Community Bank® in Bungendore which opened in July 2006. Recognised in this role, he became the 2006 Australia Day Bungendore Citizen of the Year.
